ABOUT ME

Hi! I am Ruben Craninx, a Belgian (hobby) photographer and videographer with a passion for aviation and landscape photography.

Where did my passion for aviation come from?
My passion for aviation started at a young age.
My father was an instructor at the Belgian Air force’s school for Technicians at Sint-Truiden. As a kid, the instructional airframes at the school made a great impression on me, when visiting my father at work during school holidays.
I love aviation and aerospace in general, but military aviation is what interests me most.
I always dreamt of a job in the aviation sector, but eventually chose to become a landsurveyor.
Working for a large construction company in Belgium, I have had the chance to work on some of the largest civil and infrastructure projects in the Benelux.
A few years ago, I introduced our survey departement to the capabilities of drone survey flights. Today, me and two collegues are registered RPAS-pilots.
We perform photography and photogrammetry flights on a regular basis. The perfect combination between surveying, photograpy and aviation.

Where did my passion for photography come from?
It was my grandfather who gave me the photography virus. He was also a hobby photographer and videographer.
He bought me my first camera when I was 12 years old, as a present.
On my bike, armed with that 5MP camera, I drove around my hometown, making pictures of landscapes and nature.
In 2008, at the age of 16, this "photography-virus" made me buy my first DSLR.
I bought a Nikon D60 with 2 kitlenses, spending all the money I had earned during a holidayjob, I have been a "Nikon-fan" ever since.
The 55-200mm kitlens, soon proved too "short" for aviation and wildlife photography, so I got the affrodable
Sigma 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM.
I (ab)used this camera and lenses until 2014, when I upgraded my camerabody to a Nikon D7100.
Over the years several camera's and lenses were added to my collection.

I tried all kinds of photography and videography. But time has become the limiting factor.
Aviation is my main focus, but when I am on a walk, event or holiday, you will rarely see me without a camera or camerabag.

This website, currently, is dedicated to my aviation photography.
It is possible I will add a small section that covers some of my other pictures and videos in the future.
